چکیده

In this paper, we consider soft real-time systems with redundant off-the-shelf processing components (e.g., CPU, disk, network), and show how applications can exploit the redundancy to improve the system's ability of meeting response time goals (soft deadlines). We consider two scheduling policies, one that evenly distributes load (Balance), and one that partitions load according to job slackness (Chop). We evaluate the effectiveness of these policies through analysis and simulation. Our results show that by intelligently distributing jobs by their slackness amount the servers, Chop can significantly improve realtime performance.

A Multiprocessor System with Non-Preemptive Earliest-Deadline-First Scheduling Policy: A Performability Study

This paper introduces an analytical method for approximating the performability of a firm realtime system modeled by a multi-server queue. The service discipline in the queue is earliestdeadline- first (EDF), which is an optimal scheduling algorithm. Real-time jobs with exponentially distributed relative deadlines arrive according to a Poisson process. All jobs have deadlines until the end of s...

A capacity sharing and stealing strategy for open real-time systems

This paper focuses on the scheduling of tasks with hard and soft real-time constraints in open and dynamic real-time systems. It starts by presenting a capacity sharing and stealing (CSS) strategy that supports the coexistence of guaranteed and non-guaranteed bandwidth servers to efficiently handle soft tasks’ overloads by making additional capacity available from two sources: (i) reclaiming un...

Dual Management of Real-Time and Interactive Jobs in Smartphones

A dual management of real-time and interactive jobs in dual-core smartphones is presented. The proposed scheme guarantees the end-to-end QoS of real-time applications, while also provides reasonable latency for interactive applications. To this end, high performance NVRAM is adopted as storage of real-time applications, and a dual purpose CPU scheduler, in which one core is exclusively used for...

Bi-criteria Three Stage Fuzzy Flowshop Scheduling with Transportation Time and Job Block Criteria

Scheduling is an enduring process where the existence of real time information frequently forces the review and modification of pre-established schedules. The real world is complex and complexity generally arises from uncertainty. From this prospective the concept of fuzziness is introduced in the field of scheduling. The present paper pertains to a bi-criterion in n-jobs, three machines fl...

An Effective Task Scheduling Framework for Cloud Computing using NSGA-II

Cloud computing is a model for convenient on-demand user’s access to changeable and configurable computing resources such as networks, servers, storage, applications, and services with minimal management of resources and service provider interaction. Task scheduling is regarded as a fundamental issue in cloud computing which aims at distributing the load on the different resources of a distribu...
